Cool video about “Speaker Wire”, take a look:

This the third update of my homemade subwoofer. I have remade everything from the last video; I have a completely rebuilt driver and a foam box. I used one layer of foam for the box, and some bracing to strengthen it. I used a 1″ by 12″ slot port, with about 30 to 5″ of port length, in 5 or 6 U-bends in the port. The box is 6″ tall, 24″ long, and 12″ wide. It’s tuned to somewhere around the low 20 Hz range (hopefully), and the box is exactly 1.0 cubic feet, excluding the port volume. The driver is completley my own design, made out of the same foam board as the box (but much more rigid than the box). In my opinion the driver looks like a Fi BTL sub (woot!) with a modded magnet structure. The magnet structure is a whole 3″ full range driver taped to the back plate. The voice coil is some copper wire exctracted from the inside of some speaker wire. I had to tape many peices of wire (about 15) to complete the coil, and I am not sure if it will short circuit when I turn it on for the first time, because I had a small problem with keeping the wire lengths together. Other than my voice coil wire being at risk of short circuit, all I have to do it test it out with something, and if it works, I’ll plug it in to my receiver, and if I don’t smell anything it’ll be bumpin’! I’d like to make a tutorial, but I don’t have the supplies (or space) to make another one. If you have any comments or questions, please comment! I like comments! Also, if you’d like to know when a new vid of

I posted that comment long before I ever saw that cardboard box you built : ).

@31Orcas thats not true.
i made a really good cardboard box on on of my videos on my channel.
go check it out. theres 2 videos about it.
it was for a 12″.
no i upgraded and have some better stuff. subscribe if you like im just getting started.
: )

I’m waiting until I can find 20 guage magnet wire at a good price in an actual sotre because my mom hates paying shipping for products online and they might not be what you expect. I’ll try and make the coil winder too. I tried putting one of my VR3 subs in the foam box and the foam box is an epic fail in rugged construction design because it rattles in places I can’t fix (like halfway into the 9 u-bends of the WW-port (my variation of L-port)).

nice progress, but i’d like to give a few tips. first of all, do yourself a favor and buy proper magnet wire. second, make yourself a coil winder so you don’t have to use your fingers. i was able to make one with stuff lying around the house.

third, learn to measure the parameters of your newly created woofer so you can put it in the right box. this is one of the most important things and yes it involves some math but the computer can do it for you. pm me if you need any pointers.

Yeah, but I put a cheap 12″ sub in there, and the box would not rattle no matter how hard I tried to stop it. So it doesn’t really work… you NEED wood to make a sub box unless ur a genious at sub boxes, and I’m kinda a noob, haha.

thats awesome!

When will your next update be? :D

Oh, ok. Yeah, $11 is a lot for a wire.

i have plenty of that lol what i need is a 11$ 3.5 mm to rca connecter for my car amp

Speaker wire is cheap, you can find it at dollar stores : ).

i just redid my setup :D now i have a 4 inch all the time and also 2 5.5s but i cant use them this week cause i ran out of cords lol

Yeah… it didn’t work. I have neo magnets now but I need a better coil. IDK if I’ll get the wire anytime soon. I’m rebuilding the sub again and my new design looks a lot like an AudioPulse sub : ).

ummm i see the magnet of the 3″ speaker is shielded!that can work dude…but nice build, you just should get another magnet

I found the wire, but it’s from a karaoke machine that fried (smoke came out), and all hope was lost of revival so I used it for parts. It’s been over a year since electricity has been through the wires, and I didn’t learn about electricity in school yet, but I doubt that it held on to all that voltage for so long. Can it discharge into the air? Besides, voltage doesn’t kill people, it’s the amperage that does!

i don’t think there are any gases, i think its just a vacuum, but be careful since there is possibly a high voltage discharge that could shock you coming from the tube wire.
but the wires i was talking about on the previous post, its a budle of wire that been wrapped in black electrical tape and the wire runs around the back of the tube of the tv, held at about 4 different points and then plugs on the mother board of the tv. with that wire you can build the voice coil of your speaker.

I tried to take the wire part off of the rest of the CRT and in the process I heard a crack and the same sound you hear when you open a lighlty shaken bottle of soda. I broke the vacuum tube, so I’m wondering, is there anything toxic I should worry about?

Also, my mom won’t get me any subwoofer supplies until school ends because I’m too busy ATM. School ends in almost exaclty three weeks : ).

Yeah, I have an old CRT from a karaoke set that I took apart. Epoxy? Where the heck could I get that? Besides, I have a glue gun and it’s strong enough. Also, the duct tape seems to be pretty good for the surrounds. I don’t think that neither my amp or voice coil could provide enough force for my sub if it had rubber surrounds.

How is this speaker project coming along?

The voice coil wire must be insulated to work. Radio Shack has 22gauge magnetic wire for cheap. Broken TV have around 100 feet of magnetic wire, Wrapped with electrical tape that you can use or computer monitor, Its heavy gauge, That handles allot of current.
You should use the bicycle tire tube for the surround like some one said. Two part epoxy should work for everything you need to glue. Keep up the good work and keep us posted.

3,700? Lucky, LOL.

Very nice! I hope you finish this thing soon. (BTW: my vid has 3700 hits :)
